Allen Toyotas Around the MS Gulf Coast : I was commissioned to take pictures of Allen Toyotas all around the Mississippi Gulf Coast, which is our home. Allen Toyota has just relocated to Cowan-Lorraine Rd. and Interstate 10 into a state-of-the-art huge new dealership. The over 100 associates at Allen Toyota are excited to serve you. Please come see our Hyundai store which has moved into the newly renovated Toyota building. I had a lot of fun taking these pictures and there will be more to come. These will be on the walls of the Toyota Store in time for our Grand Opening which is actually a two day event, March 23 for national Toyota executives and March 24 for local officials and invited guests.

Blue Angels and More! : My good friend, John Stricklin, and I made a day out of this and what a day it was!! Beautiful weather and temperatures and a large but manageable crowd of people made it just lovely. The show was spectacular. I hope you enjoy my way of capturing the day. These pilots are incredible! My hat is off to the military and their skill level. I salute you one and all. I used my Nikon D3, my Nikon 70-200 f2.8 lens with a Promaster 2X Teleconverter. Usual settings: ISO 400, Shutter Speed 2000, F5.6 - 8 There are portrait type images in the middle pages of all the non Blue Angel planes and acrobatics toward the end.

Allen Hyundai Fire : Fire broke out at Allen Hyundai around 10:00 P.M. on Sunday night, April 11, 2010. I got there as soon as I could. The firemen and police were busy trying to contain the flames and I was busy trying to capture this slice of history. After all is said and done, this will be a blip. Only the last three bays were destroyed. Our office was intact as was the showroom floor. We simply moved our office staff and sales people to the Toyota buildings. Allen Hyundai was up and ready for business the next morning. And the deals were smokin!!

Blue Angels and More! : My good friend, John Stricklin, and I made a day out of this and what a day it was!! Beautiful weather and temperatures and a large but manageable crowd of people made it just lovely. The show was spectacular. I hope you enjoy my way of capturing the day. These pilots are incredible! Shrimping on the MS Gulf Coast : One of our top three industries, shrimping and fishing are our way of life and much appreciated. When the rest of the country are eating frozen shrimp and crabs and grouper, flounder, and snapper, etc, we are eating them fresh out of the sea. And how 'bout $3.00 a pound for beautiful large white or brown shrimp instead of $7 - $10? That's what I'm talkin about!

Caitlyn : Caitlyn, These images have not been post-processed. I put them up so y'all can choose which ones you want. After you choose, decide what size you need each of them in. If you are thinking 8x10s, some of these need to stay as 8x12s because cropping to fit the archaic ready-made frame companies' products who still only do 8x10s, would compromise the looks. So the ones that look longer are still 8x12s. Numbers 4, 7, 12, 13, and 16 have been cropped to 8x10 already. Some of the others could be cropped without compromising what they are but not all of them. If you see any you think would be nice in Black n White, High Key, or done some other way, let me know. I will look too. Then decide which type of media you want them printed on. Your choices are: Glossy paper, Matt finish, or Luster which is a cross between glossy and matt and is my favorite. There is also Metallic paper which you might like for number 7, the sepia toned one. I don't recommend it for the other color serious ones, but would really make number 7 pop. Then there is the Metalprint. Any and all would look great this way. Did I tell you that you clean it with Windex?? And that you can put it outside? This media brings out colors beautifully and makes Black n white really pop. Traci, the Caitlyn "discards" are mixed in with the yesses. I didn't want that, but that is how they posted. Caitlyn is a beautiful, sweet girl and it was my pleasure to capture her image.

My Tribute to Irving Penn : Born in 1917, Irving Penn, for those of you who may not know of his work, was one of the most important photographers of all time. He was well known for his work at Harper's Bazaar, Saks and the 160 covers and design work he did for Vogue. In his latter years, he did portraits and still lifes and would sometimes leave in dirt or dust or distracting items. The third image is in the latter style, while the first two are a collaboration between Billy Dugger (the Photographer, turned model), and myself in an effort to replicate Mr. Penn's famous portraits. Homeless: My hour with Michael Stout : Michael Stout is a homeless man in his early 50s, living in Gulfport, Mississippi. He is originally from Newport News, Virginia, but now lives barely hanging on in Gulfport. On a day that we had tropical storm force winds and some flooding caused by Hurricane Ike, I watched Michael riding his bike, weaving back and forth as he made his way through traffic. I feared for his safety because he was obviously under the influence of alcohol. I followed him down a quiet dreary street of delapidated or burned out shotgun houses. Not the sort of place I usually frequent! I had been photographing the effects of the storm nearby on the beach and was still in the mood to shoot (as always!) I watched him hide from me beside a house and snapped a picture of him, which I instantly realized was wrong. He didn't seem too pleased, so I asked him if I could take his picture. He said no thanks, he didn't believe so. I offered him $10 and he said he would do anything I wanted. (LOL) He was glad to talk to me after a slow start. He has lost his home, car, his driver's license and everything he owned and blamed a divorce for that. I have a feeling alcohol has contributed to his demise as well. He did a great job of modeling and doing exactly as I asked to the best of his ability. I thanked him and started to leave, then feeling bad that I hadn't given him more, I told him if he would sit for another couple of pictures, I would give him some more money which I did. I asked him to use the money for food, to which he replied, "the church down the street gives me bad food, it's just beans and peas and awful stuff". So I surmised he would indeed be spending it on more alcohol to ease his pain. This man is an unfortunate example of the lowest rung of our society, but even then had dignity. I am glad we met.

11/2008: Bogota, Colombia: Flowers of Bogota : So beautiful! The weather in Bogota is so unique. It is the same every day of the year. It gets chilly at night, an average of 45 degrees, never less than 43 or more than 47! During the day year round, it is never warmer than 66 degrees or cooler than 63!! Not being used to it, I was freezing the whole time I was there. :) There is no heat in the houses there, but I slept under three blankets with long underwear, pj's, a sweater and my jacket and scarf on. I was fine and slept great!! They would all roast in Gulfport!!

11/2008: Bogota, Colombia: The Salt Cathedral : The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira is an underground church built in a tunnel of salt mines 200 metres inside a salt mountain near the town of Zipaquirá, in Cundinamarca, Colombia. Curving and twisting tunnels descend into the Roman Catholic church, passing 14 small chapels representing the stations of the cross, which illustrate the events of Jesus' last journey. Each station has a cross and several kneeling platforms carved into the salt structure. The temple at the bottom has three sections, representing the birth, life, and death of Jesus. Salt deposits in Zipaquirá were formed 250 million years ago, and were raised above sea level during the late Tertiary period, when the Andes were formed. Years before Zipaquira's Salt Cathedral was built, miners had carved a sanctuary. In 1950 the construction of a bigger project was begun: the Salt Cathedral which was inaugurated in 1954. However, as the cathedral was carved inside an active mine, structural problems and safety concerns led the authorities to shut down the sanctuary in 1990. In 1991 the construction of a new Cathedral was undertaken, 200 feet under the older one. This new Cathedral was inaugurated in 1995. Its various corridors and sanctuaries were achieved by making small but significant additions to the caves left behind by previous mining operations. Water seepage is again taking it's toll on the inner mountain and eventually a whole new cathedral will have to be excavated again. The name "Salt Cathedral" is mostly to attract tourists - while a functioning church that receives as many as 3,000 visitors on Sundays, it has no bishop and therefore no official status as a cathedral in Catholicism. I truly thought it was fascinating and well worth the visit.

9/2004 Budapest & Prague : This trip was supposed to be David and Barbara, but Brooke got to go because of Hurricane Ivan. No one knew where it would land and at the last minute, it turned and went to Orange Beach and Pensacola. It, destroyed our condo while Brooke and I were abroad. David stayed behind in case it went to Gulfport. Forgive me for not remembering which city is which. Yea, I know, pretty dumb, but they are so similar. The city of Budapest is actually two cities in one. On one side of the Danube, is Buda and the other is Pest. FYI, Pest is pronounced Pesht.

Lunar Eclipse Feb. 08 : A lunar eclipse occurs at least two times a year, whenever some portion of the Earth's shadow falls upon the Moon. The Moon will always be full during a lunar eclipse; that is, from the perspective of the Sun, the Moon will be directly behind the Earth. In order to be eclipsed, the Moon must be near one of the two intersection points its orbit makes with the ecliptic, which are referred to as the Moon's ascending and descending nodes. The shadow of the Earth can be divided into two distinctive parts: the umbra and penumbra. Within the umbra, there is no direct solar radiation. However, as a result of the Sun's large angular size, solar illumination is only partially blocked in the outer portion of the Earth's shadow, which is given the name penumbra. When the Moon travels completely into the Earth's umbra, one observes a total lunar eclipse. Such was the case last night. It lasted 51 minutes but time going in and out amounted to over three hours of viewing time. The color and brightness of the Moon during an eclipse varies according to the amount of light refracted by the Earth's atmosphere and how much dust and cloud cover are there. Each lunar eclipse is a different shade from orange to purple. Unfortunately, there was a cloud cover over the Mississippi Gulf Coast last night so I missed the beginning and the end of the show. I was just glad that the skies cleared for the main event! A wonderful bonus were Saturn and the Star Regulus near enough to the moon to get them in two of my shots. Be sure and find them. If I had had a telescopic lens you could have seen Saturn's rings. I had a learning curve about how to photograph it. I had never used my new D300 in night photography. My D70 had a setting for it and I always used it. So when I tried, I royally messed it up. After trying for 20 minutes and losing good shots of it going under, I called my friend. He informed me that I had to set my camera on manual and my lens also on manual. I now had to decide what shutter speed and aperture setting to use, which changed during the eclipse as the light changed. I also had to manual focus the lens. This would not be a problem for some, but I don't see well, so I had to approximate when I had it in focus and not. You can see that I didn't always hit it. I still posted those photos because they were still sequential. There was no Post Processing except zooming in. I could have, but didn't think it appropriate. What I did do can be viewed in the first gallery in this category. There is a great story about a Lunar Eclipse that occurred during Christopher Columbus' trip to the New World. It is my favorite place in the U.S. We had perfect weather in August when it was disgusting at my home in Gulfport, MS. I purposely didn't blur the background so I could see the beautiful gray boulders and cold water of Winkler's Creek For more pix of the creek, see my gallery called High Country". The non creek pix were made on an old non-working farm and a lake. Because these pix are a little revealing, I decided to make right clicking impossible. I am her mother, after all. Leo and Diana 11/15/08 : This was done with the Nikkor 18-200 lens. I don't like the colors it rendered so I took a lot of color out of most. Probably would have been better if I had gone to Black n White. I had never shot a wedding before. This was done with a Nikon D300 and it was about two years ago. I have learned a lot since then!! Hurricane Ivan : Hurricane Ivan struck Orange Beach, Alabama in September 2004. Brooke and I were in Budapest or Prague that day. We had a condo in Orange Beach. I found out on the internet when the man reported that "Orange Beach and Perdido Key are gone". I almost passed out. Then I prayed over the stuff that meant something to me. That stuff is in my house today. Don't ever doubt The Man.

Crusin' The Coast 07 : Every Fall, they start pouring in & stay a week, the muscle cars, Model A's and figments of someone's imagination fun rides. Lots of old white guys and their gals gather for fun on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. It lasts about a week and has activities planned all the way from Ocean Springs to Waveland (or what's left of it). Our glitzy casinos all get involved (yes, we have 10 back up since Evil Katrina). Everyone has a great time and the locals get a great show just by taking a chair and sitting on Hwy 90 which runs the length of our 26 miles of beach (not counting Ocean Springs, Bay St. Louis and Waveland}. It was Co-Chaired by Scott Allen and Jonathan Allen, who were chosen because they were the most promising seniors at Northwood. This was the first year that the Auto Show was not on premises at Northwood. They had typically had up to 5,000 visitors until this year when The Allen brothers and their Northwood student staff hosted it at the Palm Beach Convention Center and brought in some 25,000 people. Mutations by my Lensbaby : I have a Lensbaby 3G. I played with it and this was what was even close to worthy of being posted. I have a LOT to learn about how to control it. This is a manual focus lens and I have a problem with that cause I CAN"T SEE! You adjust the focus with your fingers. It is a lot easier when the camera is mounted on a tripod. I had fun making these and I hope you enjoy them. These first attempts are mainly just common things around my house. I think this lens begs for lots of color. The point of it is controlled blur. I am out of control. ;} Do NOT tell Nikon about this gallery!! They will be jealous that I have 7 other lenses by them and some of them incredible, but I am whoopin and hollerin over my new Lensbaby. 4th Of July 2008 : Our 4th was spent with 27 out of 33 family members in the foothills of north Georgia at Beck and Art's new mountain chalet. We all had a great time. If you think I took too many pix of the baby, no. There are two of them. They look just alike...or do they?

Cobbs: Cat, Nick, Kim, George : My sister, Kim's, family (New images inside at the end) Some of these were shot in Saluda, NC. Some were shot at Belmont Abbey in 06. Some of Kim were made at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. And some extraneous ones in Boone and wherever. The last images were made at Chimney Rock.

Just let me know in a comment under the image that this is the one you want and I will begin making the photo gorgeous. I will correct shadows, iron out wrinkles and blemishes in both background and faces. Don't worry, I won't change your faces too much, just soften them. In your comment, just let me know if there is anything you particularly want done and I will try to accommodate. I will check back on here to see if you are ready with choices and get right to work on them. If you are not happy, I will reshoot.
